My Take: Was the Kohli-Sharma ODI Rankings Glitch a Publicity Stunt?

The world of cricket was recently thrown into a brief panic when a supposed technical error on the ICC website momentarily removed the names of cricketing legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the ODI rankings. While an error with a lower-ranked player might have gone unnoticed, this one struck at the heart of the game. It makes you wonder: Was this truly just a simple glitch, or could there have been a deeper reason behind it?

It’s no coincidence that this “glitch” happened to two of India’s most beloved players, a nation where cricket is a religion. As soon as the news spread, the ICC website was hit by a massive wave of traffic. The sheer number of visitors was unprecedented. Could this have been a planned publicity stunt? A clever move to drive immense traffic to the website by leveraging the emotions of millions of passionate Indian cricket fans? It’s a thought that crosses your mind.

Amidst all the chaos, rumors about the retirement of both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma began to circulate. It’s important to remember that these are just rumors. Neither player has made an official announcement about retiring from the ODI format. Fans should take a breath and not believe every piece of news that spreads on social media. “And those who spread rumours should understand that it is enough now. Because there is no point in diverting people’s attention unnecessarily”.

Let’s talk about their playing style, starting with Virat Kohli. When he’s on the field, there is no hint of nervousness or being out of form. His presence alone is enough to intimidate the opposition. His aggression, unique style, and incredible energy are palpable. When he’s batting, you can see a distinct determination, and when he’s chasing a target, he doesn’t rest until the match is won.

His career statistics are a testament to his greatness: 14,181 runs from 302 matches, including 51 centuries and 74 half-centuries. Doubting his fitness is simply not an option. Some people may point to his grey beard on social media and claim he’s “getting old,” but that is a natural part of aging and has no bearing on a player’s fitness or performance. Brother after turning 37, anyone’s beard will grow naturally, after all he is also a human being  😊

Now, for Rohit Sharma. His on-field presence is one of complete coolness and composure. As the captain of Team India, he holds the entire team together effortlessly. His energy is different from Kohli’s, but just as effective. When he’s at the crease and gets settled, he can hit sixes with such ease that you’ll wonder how he does it. He’s not called “The Hitman” for nothing.

In his ODI career, he has scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches, with 32 hundreds and 58 fifties. And who can forget his incredible single-innings score of 264? I still remember that India vs Sri Lanka match in which Rohit Sharma thrashed the Sri Lankan bowlers and single-handedly scored 264 runs. So, There should be no doubt about his abilities.

The truth is, neither player has any plans to retire just yet. They are almost certain to play in the next World Cup, and we all hope that India will bring the trophy home. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
