‘Param Sundari’ Review: A Rehashed Story with a New Cast?

‘Param Sundari’ Review : Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra have officially entered the Maddock Films production house with their new movie, Param Sundari, which was released in theaters on August 29, 2025.

Why do I say they’ve “entered” Maddock Films? Because almost all films from this production house, founded by Dinesh Vijan, manage to become hits one way or another. Maddock Films has an impressive track record, with hits like the Stree film series, Munjya, and Bhediya, all of which have performed exceptionally well at the box office.

Now, let’s find out how Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra’s film holds up.

A Story That Feels Familiar

If you’ve seen the trailer for this film, the first thing that probably came to mind was the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, Chennai Express. And yes, this movie is made in a similar style. It’s a cross-cultural love story packed with comedy and romance.

The story revolves around Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a wealthy young man who wants to launch a dating app similar to Shaadi.com. However, his father, played by Sanjay Kapoor, agrees to invest only on one condition: Param must find his own life partner, his ‘Sundari,’ using the app. This leads Param from the north of India straight to a village in Kerala, where he meets Sundari. The journey is filled with humor and romantic moments.

Acting and Chemistry

In terms of acting, both Sidharth and Janhvi manage to get by, but their comedic performances don’t particularly stand out. Their on-screen chemistry, however, is quite good. Janhvi Kapoor’s look in the film is fantastic, and her fans will certainly enjoy seeing her on the big screen.

It’s worth noting that some of the stronger, more colorful language like (bloody & some wordings) mentioned in the original script seems to have been removed by the censor board.

Direction, Story, and Cinematography

The film’s writers—Tushar Jalota (who also directed the film), Gaurav Mishra, and Aarsh Vora—have crafted a very simple story. The direction by Tushar Jalota is good, but the overall plot lacks substance. The cinematography, however, is excellent. The beautiful shooting locations are a visual treat, and many scenes, like those showing burly people from the south chasing Sidharth, will give you a strong sense of déjà vu, reminding you of Chennai Express.

Music

The music composers for the film are Sachin-Jigar, who are the regular composers for most Maddock films, with the Exception for the film Chhava. As always, Sachin-Jigar’s musical magic shines through. Sonu Nigam’s song Pardesiya takes you to a different world—a definite hat-tip to him. The song Bheegi Saree, sung by Adnan Sami and Shreya Ghoshal, is also a powerful track. All the songs from the film have been chartbusters.

Final Verdict

If you enjoy watching typical Bollywood romantic dramas that are full of comedy, romance, and commercial appeal, then this movie is definitely worth watching at least once.
